Frank W. Barnes, 91, of Port St. Joe, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007. He was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Henry County. He taught school in Tumbleton, Atmore, and Port St. Joe, Fla., before retiring in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Franklin and Mamie Rosson Barnes; three brothers, Golden Barnes, John Barnes and Gordon Barnes; three sisters, Daisy Thomas, Mamie Ruth Folsom and Sarah Barnes.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorell Barnes; his two sons, Jerry Barnes and wife, Elaine, of Port St. Joe, Fla., and Jerome Barnes and wife, Marlene, of Panama City, Fla.; four brothers, Charles Barnes and wife, Fannie, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Marvin Barnes and wife, Betty, of Shorterville, James Barnes and wife, Ann, of Shorterville, Fred Barnes and wife, Martie, of Lenoir, N.C.; two sisters, Hortense Barnes of Dothan, Ann Thomason and husband, Jamie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Kay Geoghagan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Long Avenue Baptist Church, 1601 Long Ave., Port St. Joe, Fla. Funeral services will take place at Long Avenue Baptist Church at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, with the Rev. Bruce Duty officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Mens Adult Three Sunday School Class from Long Avenue Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Kesley Colbert, Fred Whitten, Eugene Raffield, Johnny Linton, David Horton, David Maness, Chris Early and Randy McClain.
