Hursteen West Rollins, of Blakely, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at his home following a long illness. He was 82.
His funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. EST at Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Blakely, Ga., where he had been a deacon for more than 40 years. Visitation will be an hour prior to the funeral service in the fellowship hall of Zion Freewill Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at Sowahatchee Cemetery with the Revs. Roy Rogers and Jimmy Hooks officiating. The Celebration of Life will conclude with the presentation of the American flag and taps by the U.S. Navy personnel.
Mr. Rollins was born in Early County, Ga., on Jan. 20 1925. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Phillipines and
was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell Furman Rollins and Violeeta (Bobbie) Rollins Reeves and a sister, Mary Helen Bell.
Survivors incldue his wife of 58 years, Miriam Hartley Rollins; a daughter, Brenda Jordan (Jimmy) of Geneva; and a son, Maxwell Rollins (Donna) of Summerville, S.C., and two grandchildren, Rebecca and Robert Rollins of Summerville, S.C., and an uncle, Lawrence Rollins of Columbus, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Free Will Baptist Childrens Home, P.O. Box 8, Eldridge, AL 35554, or to your favorite charity.
The family would like to express their appreciation to his special caregivers, Linda Craft and Tabattha Craft as well as to Hospice of Southwest Georgia for all their care and support.
