Mrs. Hazel Elder Chisum, age 88, of Dothan, formerly of Andalusia, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in the Wesley Manor Retirement Center, Alzheimers Wing, in Dothan.
Mrs. Chisum was born April 6, 1919, in Evergreen. Mrs. Chisum was employed by Alatex in Andalusia for 40 years before her retirement. She was a charter member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Andalusia and a active member of Pathway Baptist Church in Dothan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James J. Kilpatrick of Daleville and Melvin Kilpatrick of Andalusia officiating. Special music will be provided by Danny Williams, the Minister of music at Mount Gilead Baptist Church of Dothan. Interment will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 2256 Montgomery Highway, Dothan AL 36303, or Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Chisum (William R.) Dunn, Chandler Texas; son and daughter-in-law, John Max (Myra Lancaster) Chisum, Dothan; brother, Howard Elder, Mobile; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren
Pallbearers will include John Dean Chisum, Mark Dunn, Mike Woodall and David Martin.
Mrs. Chisum was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley E. Chisum, and parents, John and Bell Elder of Evergreen. Also five brothers, Dewey Elder, Starke Fla., Marlon Elder, Starke Fla., Neal Elder, Starke, Fla., John D. Elder, Opp, Gene Elder, Mobile, and sister, Alma Bracewell, Mobile.
