Mr. Burley Hughes Jr., a resident of Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center in Bonifay, Fla., formerly of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007. He was 83.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Cornerstone Pentecostal Ministries with the Revs. Keith Chamblee and Chuck Grantham officiating. Mr. Hughes will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the Eunola Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home
Friday, Nov. 9, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cornerstone Pentecostal Ministries.
Mr. Hughes was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Geneva County, to the late Burley Sr. and Carrie Rebecca Bowen Hughes. Known as "Wheat", he worked for the City of Geneva Sanitation Department for several years and also Elmores Garage. He attended Cornerstone Pentecostal Ministries.
In addition to his parents, two brothers, Herbert and Hershel Hughes, as well as one sister, Thelma Pert, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Lloyd Strickland of Louisville, Ky.; three brothers, Edward Hughes and wife, Judy, of Trenton, Fla., Joe Hughes and wife, Clara, of Geneva, and Ray Hughes of Texas; three children who reside in Georgia; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
