Mrs. Josephine Hendrix of Hartford passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, after an extended illness. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, in Sardis Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Stringfellow officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the hospice of your choice, Sardis Methodist Church, 649 County Road 67, Hartford, AL 36344, or to Hartford Baptist Church, Hartford, AL 36344.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Hendrixs residence.
Mrs. Hendrix was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Geneva County to the late James Malcolm McLaney and Prelly Riley Hendrix. She was a member of Sardis Methodist Church. She and her husband were owners of the Hartford Radiator and Welding Shop for over 50 years.
Her husband, J. C. Hendrix Jr., her parents, and three brothers, Earl, Bernice and Eugene McLaney, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Johnny Howell of Hartford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry J. and Joy Hendrix and Jimmy D. and Mary Lou Hendrix, all of Hartford; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe M. and Cathy McLaney of Laurel Hill, Fla.; two sisters: Jewel Johnson of Crestview, Fla., and Glenda Bishop of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jerome Hendrix of Hartford, Jimmy Roy Hendrix (Melody) of Dothan, Chad Hendrix of Samson, Shad Hendrix of Slocomb, Dr. Regina Hendrix-Laney (Keith) of Troy, Michael Hendrix of Montgomery, Jonathan Howell (Britany) of Dothan; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to express their thanks to the special caregivers, Sarah Chalmers and Shelby Matthews, for their loving care given to their mother.
