Jacob "Jake" Joseph Benton

Jacob "Jake" Joseph Benton of Opp died in a local hospital on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007. He was 86. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, from First Baptist Church in Opp with burial following in Opp City Cemetery. Mike Flowers will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wyatt Funeral Home. The family will receive flowers or memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church of Opp benevolence fund. He is survived by his wife, Edith Foreman Benton; daughters, Lynn Shaffer, Susan Farr and Janie Nolen; brother, Max Benton; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Shaffer, Benji Farr, Jeremy Farr, Hunter Nolen, Michael John Mitchell and Dennis Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Shaw and members of the Opp Fire Department, where Mr. Benton served as former fire chief. Wyatt Funeral Home, (334) 493-2506, is in charge of arrangements.
