Mrs. Alma Cobb Simmons

Mrs. Alma Cobb Simmons, 88, of Enon Road, Webb, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 18, 2007, at the long term care unit of Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Mrs. Simmons was born on Oct. 4, 1919, in Geneva County. Mrs. Simmons Retired after 40 years of service with the Phillip VanHusen Company in Geneva as a seamstress. She lived in Geneva until her retirement and moved to Webb in 1989. She attended First Baptist Church of Ashford and also was involved in the Annette Merritt Sunday school class. She also attended the Webb Senior Center. Mrs. Simmons will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Simmons; parents, Wallace Cobb and Elizabeth Anderson Cobb Pridgen; stepfather, Noah Pridgen; two sisters, Susie Anderson Davis Bell and Ruby Anderson Owens Monk; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe H. Simmons and Beverly Ann Smith Simmons. She is survived by two daughters, Doris Simmons Barley and husband, LaVaughn J., Webb, Sylvia Simmons Alford and husband, Joel K., Athens; one son, Charles E. Simmons and wife, Jacqueline Lisle, Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Michelle Simmons Coffey, Derek Simmons, Kevin Simmons, Amy Simmons Hearn and Brian Simmons; nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Shirley Owens Mosier, Geneva; two nephews. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, in the Chapel of Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home of Ashford. Officiating will be the Rev. Todd Thorpe. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. in the Chapel of Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home of Ashford. The interment will immediately follow the service at Ashford City Cemetery. Other than scheduled visitation time the family will gather at the residence of Mrs. Doris Barley, 2494 Enon Road, Webb. The family request flowers or contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ashford Building fund. Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home, (334) 793-1117, is in charge of arrangements.
