Linton Nolen

Linton Nolen, a resident of North Koonce St., Columbia, died early Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2007, in Long Term Care at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 77. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with the Revs. Robert Strickland and Billy Nolen officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday in the parlor of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, AL 36302. Mr. Nolen was born in the Tolbert community of Henry County and was reared in Newville and Haleburg. He moved to Columbia in 1945 where he was a 1948 graduate of the Houston County High School. Mr. Nolen served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and formerly served as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Mr. Nolen was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge No. 135 where he received a 50-year pin. He was also an active participant in the Columbia Senior Citizens Center where he served on the board of directors. Mr. Nolen was retired as a Clerk Dispatcher from the Chattahoochee Industrial Railroad in Cedar Springs, Ga. In earlier years, he was employed by the Central of Georgia Railroad as a Telegraph Operator. Mr. Nolen was preceded in death by his father, David Ethell Nolen, and his mother, Essie Ree Murphy Walker. Surviving relatives include his wife, Marjorie Norton Nolen, Columbia; a son, David M. Nolen and wife, Elizabeth Nolen, Dothan; two grandchildren, Anna Nolen and Hope Nolen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Madie Norton, Bill Norton and Betty Mobley, all of Dothan. Serving as active pallbearers will be David Rivenbark, John P. Beasley, Kenneth Bryan, Phil Bristow, Vann Rogers and Mark Lovett. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mens Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. Holman-Headland Mortuary, (334) 693-3371, is in charge of arrangements.
