Emory Houston Lindsey of Dothan died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Flowers Hospital. He was 91 years old.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Byrd Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Van J. Gauthe will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday at Byrd Funeral Home prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to a favorite charity.
Mr. Lindsey was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Mount Pleasant, Tenn., the son of Eula Mae and John Sidney Lindsey. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a veteran of World War II.
He came to Dothan in 1946 as catcher/manager for the professional baseball team, the Dothan Browns. As an avid sportsman and lover of the outdoors, he spent much of his free time fishing, golfing, and gardening.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Dothan Country Club.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Beatrice Vann Lindsey; two daughters, Terri Lindsey Skipper, and husband, Ronnie Skipper, and Kathy Lindsey Underwood, and husband, Reid Underwood, all of Dothan; four grandchildren, Lindsey Todd Skipper, and wife, Shannon, Jeffrey Vann Skipper, and wife Jennifer, all of Birmingham, Kimberly Underwood Bullard, and husband, Matt Jr., Thomas Scott Underwood, and wife, Amy, all of Dothan; four great-grandchildren, Katherine and Abby Bullard, and Gant Underwood, all of Dothan, and Bryce Skipper of Birmingham; sister, Catherine Lindsey Bolton of Columbia, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Todd Skipper, Jeff Skipper and Scott Underwood, and sons-in-law, Ronnie Skipper, Reid Underwood and Matt Bullard Jr.
