Mrs. Doris Godwin Simmons of Highway 51 in Ariton passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. She was 82.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Old Tabernacle United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lee Jones and Chris Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at Old Tabernacle United Methodist Church from 6 until 8 pm.
Mrs. Simmons was born October 10, 1924 in New Brockton, AL to the late Walter Monroe and Susan Tommy Averett Godwin. She was retired from the US Postal Service. Her husband Thomas Terah Simmons preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Simmons and his special friend Helen Creech, and Frank Simmons and his wife Sharon, all of Ariton; one brother, Cecil Godwin, New Brockton; one sister, Wynell Lassiter, Elba; three grandchildren, Michael Simmons and special friend Kelli Strickland, Michelle Patman and husband Terry, Amanda McCurley and husband Lee; one great-grandchild, Dalton Patman; and many nieces and nephews.
Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise, (334) 347-9598, is in charge of arrangements.
