MSG (RET) Robert G. Lee, formerly of Enterprise, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness. He was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 6 at Open Door Baptist Church on Rucker Boulevard with the Revs. Louie Reynolds and John McCrummen officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Sheriffs Boys and Girls Ranch or Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 5450 Ramona Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
Mr. Lee was born in Four Oaks, N.C., on Nov. 12, 1927. His military career in the Army service spanned from 1946 to his retirement in 1968 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his Vietnam service as well as numerous letters of commendations during his military career, which also included tours of duty in Saipan, Germany and Korea. Upon his retirement from the Army, he began his career with the Department of Defense (civil service) as an Academic Instructor, from which he retired in 1986. He was also active in community service, most notable, several years devoted to the Optimist Club of Enterprise.
He is survived by his wife, Gabriele K. Lee, Jacksonville, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Pauline Bellecci, Blackshear, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Thea and Mitch Barbato, Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Angela Lee, Birmingham; in addition to grandchildren, Stephan Sillay and Jennifer Gropp of Atlanta, Ga., and Anna and Evan Tubbs of Birmingham. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters.
