Edna Jewell Newton of Dothan, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was 77.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Friendship Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Clarence Watson and Talmadge Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Friendship Assembly of God Church. Flowers are being accepted and can be delivered to 1808 Barrington Road or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Newton was born on Aug. 22, 1930, in Dale County to M. H. Harrison and Edna Lois Welch Harrison and she lived the early years of her life there. She resided in Skipperville prior to moving to Houston County in 1957. Mrs. Newton was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Assembly of God Church. The family would like to express their thanks for the care and love that was given to Mrs. Newton during her recent illness. Special thanks from Peggy and David to "Daddy Jimmy" for taking care of our mama for the past thirty-two years.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Jimmy Earl Newton of Dothan; sons, David Lee Blackmon of Taylor and Bill Milton Sherman of Dothan; daughters, Peggy Carl of Dothan, Wavie Sherman of Dothan, Sandra Spivey of Troy, Peggy Glover of Wicksburg, Debra Kilgore of Florida and Virginia Turner of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Monroe Harrison, Woodrow Harrison, Grover Harrison, Bobby Harrison; sisters, Eunice Herring, Mildred Jordan, Margaret Quattlebaum, Martha Bushatz, Barbara Watson; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Levy Miro, Leon Gibson, Keith Harrison, Tim Dooling and Scotty Dooling.
