Mrs. Mildred Iva Bowman departed Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, on a journey for which she had prepared throughout her life. She was 81 and a life-long member of Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Minister Glen VanZandt officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, from 5-7 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
Mildred was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Corte Madera, Calif. She lived and was educated in California, where she met her husband, Eldon, during WWII, with whom she recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary.
A graduate of Dental Nurses Training School in San Francisco, she was employed in the dental field for several years before being hired and trained by the US Navy in the computer field. She set up and operated IBM installations at government and civilian sites in Texas.
She was a military wife and mother and accompanied Eldon around the country and overseas. Upon his retirement in 1974, they settled in Ozark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Poynor; a sister, Marjorie Rohr and a beloved granddaughter, Wendy Bowman.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Eldon; two sons and their wives, Stephen and Sylvia Bowman, Jacksonville, Fla., and Ray and Sandy Bowman, Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Marilyn Fly and Martha Hodges, both of Searcy, Ark.; several nephews and nieces.
Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, (334) 774-4551, is in charge of arrangements.
