Lucy Floyd Kirklands funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, in the Union Free Will Baptist Church, near Abbeville, with the Rev. John W. Helton Jr,. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Union Free Will Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Holt Stokes, 6485 County Road 53, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Miss Kirkland was a lifelong resident of the Union Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Silas Winfred Kirkland and Linnie Crowley Kirkland. She was a member of the Union Free Will Baptist Church and a former member of the Union Home Demonstration Club. Miss Kirkland retired as a dental assistant in the office Dr. J. E. Simonton after twenty-one years of employment.
Miss Kirkland was a very special aunt to all her nieces and nephews and was also like a second grandmother to them.
Miss Kirkland was preceded in death by a special niece, Melanie Money Rozycki; a nephew, Dennie Bishop Jr.; two brothers, Willard Kirkland and Hubert Kirkland; a sister, Addie Mae Thorpe; brothers-in-law, Thomas Allen, Dewey Thorpe and Dennie Bishop Sr.; a great-nephew, Matthew Bullington; and a special friend, Winton Wesley (Bubba) Howerton.
Surviving relatives include three sisters, Willene Bishop, Betty Allen, Elma Ruth Money; and husband, James R. Money, all of Columbus, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be nephews.
Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, (334) 585-5261, is in charge of arrangements.
