Phillip Wayne Kennedy of County Road 73 in Midland City died Monday night, Sept. 17, 2007, at his home. He was 78.
Funeral services will be Thursday in the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Dr. Jerry M. Dooling and the Rev. Gillis Crenshaw Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the sanctuary of Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church.

Mr. Kennedy was born and reared in the Sylvan Grove community of Dale County, son of the late F. J. Kennedy and Clyde Corbin Kennedy. He was a 1947 graduate of Midland City High School. Mr. Kennedy served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy. He formerly lived in Birmingham, Plano, Texas, and Dothan before returning to the family home place in the Sylvan Grove community in 1996. Mr. Kennedy was retired as regional service manager for the Carrier Air Conditioning Company in Plano. He was an active member of the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge in Dothan. Mr. Kennedy was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1887 in Dothan and was a past member of the A.S.H.R.A.Y., a national organization of air conditioning companies.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Kennedy; son-in-law, David Chris Lurie; a granddaughter, Grace Angel Lurie; brother-in-law, Victor A. Gironda.
Surviving relatives include his wife Frances Hudspeth Kennedy of Midland City; a daughter, Karen Kennedy Britton and husband Michael Britton of Midland City; a sister, June Kennedy Gironda of Chiefland, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kylie Morgan and husband L. C. Morgan, Christopher Lurie, William Lurie and wife Natalie Lurie, Arian Britton, Jadon Britton and Jerrah Britton; several cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Wyndle Enfinger, Jody Enfinger, Lewie (Sonny) Taylor, Christopher Lurie, William Lurie and Michael Miller. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Happy Campers R.V. Club.
