Mr. Charles Junior Barnes of Geneva passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007. He was 77.
Funeral services will be Friday at Devco Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with the Revs. Olan Strickland and Jerry McAdams officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Mr. Barnes will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Geneva today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Devco Baptist Church Youth or the Childrens Ministries, 1008 Sizemore Hwy, Geneva, AL 36340.
Mr. Barnes was born April 10, 1930, in Coffee County to the late Daniel Collie and Buna Louise Cogburn Barnes. For more than 50 years he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 443. After 35 years of service he retired in 1992 as a construction electrician. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Kermith Barnes; one grandson, Bobby Wade Barnes.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Hazel Wiggins Barnes of Geneva; four sons, Bobby Barnes and wife Jackie, Randy Barnes and wife Cathy all of Eunola, Craig Barnes and friend Teresa, Chris Barnes, all of Geneva; four sisters, Jeanette and Harold Bass of Enterprise, Pat and Charles Jones of Charlotteville, Va., Gail and Jim Rodgers of Atlanta, Joan and Don Webb of Scooba, Miss.; two brothers, Rex and Doris Barnes of Enterprise, Wayne and Thera Mae Barnes of Kinston; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
