Robert Eugene (Wink) Cobb of Barrington Road in Midland City died Monday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2007, in a Dothan hospital. He was 84.
Funeral services will be Thursday in Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church, near Midland City, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Mallory and Dr. C.J. Campbell officiating. Mr. Cobb will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Glenda Woodham, 1544 County Road 519, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Cobb was born in Daleville son of the late Benjamin Lafayette Cobb and Ida Skinner Cobb. He formerly lived in Daleville and Enterprise before moving to Dale County, near Midland City, where he lived most of his adult lifetime. Mr. Cobb was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an active member of the Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Cobb was engaged in farming all his life. In earlier years, he owned and operated a country store in the Fadette community.
Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 65 years, Mildred Marchman Cobb of Midland City; five daughters, Mary Ann Cobb Kissel of Enterprise, Judy Cobb Jones and husband Walter Jones of Dothan, Bobbie Cobb Eldridge and husband Larry Eldridge of Midland City, Joyce Cobb Woodham and husband Richard Woodham of Headland, Kathy Cobb Dell of Newton; a sister, Beatrice Hundley of Dothan; eight grandchildren, Billy John Thomas and wife Nicole Thomas, Tanya Bowden and husband Alan Bowden, Mike Woodall and wife Tanya Woodall, Brian Woodall, David Eldridge and wife Debra Eldridge, Robert Eldridge and wife Leslie Eldridge, Derek Woodham and wife Rachel Faulk, Blake Jenkins and wife Brandy Jenkins; 11 great-grandchildren and his special canine friend, Toby.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be William Martin, Spurgeon Ward, Wilburn Martin and Hubert Murray.
