Myrt H. Watford of State Highway 95 North in Abbeville died early Monday evening, Sept. 10, 2007, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. He was 92.
Funeral services will be Thursday in the Judson Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with a son, the Rev. Bobby Watford and Gerald Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Danie Wright, 5634 State Highway 95 North in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Judson Baptist Church, P.O. Box 56, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mr. Watford was a lifelong resident of the Screamer community of Henry County, son of the late John William Watford and Maude Stinson Watford. He was an active member and Deacon in Judson Baptist Church, where he formerly served as music director over 40 years also as a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Watford was retired as the owner and operator of Watford Pulpwood and Logging Company. In earlier years, he was the co-owner and operator of Watford Sawmilling Company.
Mr. Watford was preceded in death by his wife Donie Palmer Watford; two grandsons, Timothy Mark Watford and Jimmy Watford Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Watford; a son-in-law, Mack Sasser; four sisters and five brothers.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Danie Watford Wright and husband Jim Wright of Abbeville; four sons, Jimmy H. Watford of Dothan, the Rev. Bobby Watford and wife Kay Watford of Phenix City, Billy Joe Watford and wife Sherry Watford of Mobile, Jack Watford and wife Dinah Watford of Headland; a special and dear friend, Mary Lockwood of Dothan; two sisters-in-law, Freddie Watford and Lula Watford, both of Abbeville; a brother-in-law, Charlie Woodham of Abbeville; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Watford, Jason Watford, Jeremy Watford, Lane Watford, Brad Watford, Mackey Sasser, Randy Sasser and Kevin Watford.
Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, (334) 585-5261, is in charge of arrangements.
