Albert J. Hicks of Dothan died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Westside Terrace. He was 77.
Funeral services for Mr. Hicks will be Wednesday in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gillis Crenshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pansey. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, PO Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302. The family will receive friends at 605 Reid Drive, Dothan, AL.
Mr. Hicks was born May 11, 1930, to Rufus and Eunis Hicks in Pansey. He later joined the Dothan Police Department and was a 1974 graduate of the FBI Police Academy. Mr. Hicks retired from the police department as a lieutenant after 25 years of service. He was married to Mary Pauline Hicks for 55 years before her death in 2005. Mr. Hicks enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing and being with his grandchildren.
Mr. Hicks is preceded in death by his father, wife, daughter, Sylvia Hicks; son, Michael Hicks and two brothers, Rupert and Danny Hicks.
Survivors include his mother, Eunis Hicks; son, Donald and Joanne Hicks of Dothan; daughter-in-law, Katherine Hicks of Dothan; sister, Shirley and Jimmy Foxworth of Ashford; brothers, Edward Hicks, Sammy and Hilda Hicks, all of Ashford; five grandsons, Barry and Melanie Hicks, John Ashley and Wendy Hicks, Clayton Hicks, Kerry Hicks, all of Dothan, Tory and Angel Hicks of Ocala, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Bryson Hicks, Donald James Hicks and Molly Grace Hicks.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Smith and Mr. Hicks grandsons.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, (334) 702-1712, is in charge of arrangements.
