Mr. Paul William Stanwaity of Wicksburg formally of Powell, Wyo., passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007. He was 90.
Funeral services will be today at Bethel Baptist Church in Newton at 3 p.m. with Pastor Larry Roberts officiating. Mr. Stanwaity will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.
Memorial donations to Alacare Home Health and Hospice will be greatly appreciated by the family.
Mr. Stanwaity was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Deerfield, Mo. His family moved west to Powell when he was five years of age. He graduated from Powell High School and the U.S. Air Force. His love for outdoor sports and music were legendary. He was ski instructor in the 10th mountain division, guitarist in the Air Force Orchestra, as well as other military appointments. When World War II ended Mr. Stanwaity returned to Powell, was employed by Amoco Oil Co., he joined his musical buddy "The Rocky Mountain Cowboy Roy Barnes and The Wyoming Range Riders." The band played over the air waves of K.G.H.L. Billings, Mo. Duets of "Rocky Mountain Cowboy and "Slicker" (Stanwaity) were broadcast daily over K.P.O.W. in Powell for many years. In 1975, after 28 years of service with Amoco, Mr. Stanwaity retired. The Stanwaitys' moved to Wicksburg, he joined Bethel Baptist Church, served as active deacon, and enjoyed playing his guitar for church services especially with his good friend, Cletus Faulk playing the piano.
Preceding Mr. Stanwaity in death are daughter, Jeannie Lois Cumbie; son, Donald William Stanwaity; Mr. Stanwaitys' mother and dad, Mac and Ollie Stanwaity; brothers, Clyde, Elmer and Gordan Stanwaity; one sister, Irene Robbins.
Surviving relatives include his wife Lois of 59 years; a son, David Lee Stanwaity; son-in-law, Keith Cumbie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Stanphill and her husband Odell, Betty Stanwaity of Powell; and a brother-in-law, Henry Byrd of Wicksburg.
I bid farewell to this man of integrity. I call it birth, the soul at last set free. He is not alone, and soon I'm going home. Two souls set free, for all eternity. Lois Stanwaity.
