Mr. Charles F. Harris of Slocomb passed away on Monday, September 3, 2007 at his home after an extended illness. He was 84.
Funeral services will be Wednesday in Union Baptist Church at 2 p.m with the Revs. Charles Barker and John W. Hicks officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. At all other times, the family will be at the family residence at 181 Panther Road in Hartford.
Mr. Harris was born on Dec. 15, 1922 in Slocomb to the late Fletcher Harris and Lena Peters Harris. He served his country with loyalty and dignity during World War II and later retired from the Army National Guard. Mr. Harris owned and operated the Massey Ferguson Dealership in Slocomb for many years.
His parents and one son, Kenny Harris, as well as two brothers, Milton (George) Harris and Jack Harris, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Merle Seay Harris of Slocomb; one daughter, Kimberly Harris of Slocomb; two sons, Charles Harris., Jr. and Mike Harris, both of Slocomb; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Paul Kelly of Slocomb; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Ann Harris, Curt and Annette Harris, all of Slocomb; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb, (334) 886-7777, is in charge of arrangements.
