Mr. Norris Thompson of Dothan passed away Friday evening, Aug. 31, 2007, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was 84.
Funeral Services will be today in the Chapel of Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home of Dothan at 2 p.m. The visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Brother George Ellison and Tony Roberts. The interment will immediately follow the service at Crestlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was born on Oct. 6, 1922, in Pansey. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Norris lived for many years in Atlanta and later retired from Johnson Motor Company in 1987 as a diesel mechanic. He moved back to Dothan in 1989, and later met his current wife Maxine Thompson. He loved raising honey bees and fishing, and being with his family who was more important than any other thing.
He is preceded in death by parents, Cecil Columbus Thompson and Loda Belle Best; brother, Cecil Thompson; son, Bobby Joe Thompson.
He is survived by loving wife of 14 years, Maxine Thompson of Dothan; two sons, Freddy Wayne Thompson of Fairburn, Ga., Kenneth Kelley and wife (Mary) of Dothan; five daughters, Nancy Sharon Shaffer and husband (Charles) of Tampa, Fla., Janice Denton and husband (Danny) of Dothan, Barbara Hatfield and husband (Mike) of Niceville, Fla., Melba Price and husband (Arthur) of Newville, Sherri Gilley and husband (Mike) of Dothan; four sisters, Kate Dyess and husband Bruce of Hartford, Grace Silcox of Ashford, Ira Henning and husband Bill of Florida, Pat Carrol and husband Robert of Pansey; four brothers, Silas Thompson and wife Geri of Dothan Morris Thompson of Ashford, Paul Thompson of Spartanburg, S.C., Gerald Thompson and wife Mary of Georgia; grandchildren, Will Shaffer, Dr. Jessica Whittle, Joshua Barrett Shaffer, Laura Smith, Michael Thompson, and Wayne Thompson; seven great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandson in laws.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice.
