JackSnell2007-08-31-1188591701.gifOn Thursday, August 30, 2007 Jack Borland Snell passed away at his home in Pinckard with his family around him. He was 78. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Pinckard Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Stone and Dr. Earl Tew officiating. Burial will follow in Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mr. Snell will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL, 36302 or to Pinckard Baptist Church, P.O. Box 118, Pinckard, AL, 36371. Mr. Snell was born July 13, 1929 in Pinckard, Alabama to Ralph Leon Snell Sr. and Bertha Borland Snell. He was a Christian and a lifelong member of the Pinckard Baptist Church. Over the years he served as music director, deacon, Sunday School Teacher, R. A. Leader and bus driver. Jack attended school in Pinckard, Stark Military School in Montgomery and graduated from Dothan High School in 1949. Mr. Snell began farming with his father and brother Ralph and later farmed by himself, raising peanuts, corn, cotton, cows and hogs. Through the years, he was recognized numerous times for his farm production and conservation efforts. In 1950, he married Jalane Kelly and they worked together managing the farm, raising their children and working in the church. Mr. Snell cherished his family, church, home and land. Mr. Snell is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Bertha Snell; sisters, Dorothy Snell Dinkins and Carolyn Snell Davis; a brother, Ralph Leon Snell, Jr. and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Mozell Kelly. He is survived by his wife, Jalane Kelly Snell; a daughter, Paula Snell Coleman and husband, Miles; a son, Jack Borland Snell, Jr. and wife, Mahi; grandchildren, Kelly Lyon, Jacquelyn Lyon, Christopher Snell, Jeremy Snell and Jessica Snell; great-grandson, Caleb Lyon; a brother, Donald Borland Snell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jean and James Taylor, JoAnn and Fred McKay, Johnny and Betty Kelly, Sharon and Jimmy Newsom; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Serving as active pallbearers will be Johnny Dinkins, Bill Dinkins, Lee Snell, Mark Snell, Jim Taylor, John Kelly, Brian Newsom and Drew Newsom. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and Bill Edwards. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the friends and family for their support and a special thank you to Helen and Jessica with Covenant Hospice for their loving care of Mr. Snell.
