Mr. Thomas Dean Beaty Sr. of Clayton died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was 78.
Funeral services for Mr. Beaty will be today in Clayton Baptist Church at 11 a.m. The Revs. Bill Brown and John Pennington will officiate and burial will follow in the Clayton Cemetery.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 831 W. Washington St., Eufaula, AL 36027.
Born Sept. 29,1928, in Clayton, Mr. Beaty was the son of the late Robert Foy Sr. and Mary Belle Bowden Beaty. Mr. Beaty graduated from the Clayton High School in 1947. He owned and operated Beaty Tractor Co. for more than 50 years. He was a charter member of the Clayton Lions Club, a member of the Masonic Royal Whiteheart Lodge No. 10 for 50 years. Past president of the Barbour County Cattlemens Assoc. and the Alabama Farm & Power Equipment Dealers Association. A past director of Southland Bank, a founding member of Dixie Academy, a past member of the Clayton Rescue Squad, a member of the Clayton Educational and Medical Program and a director of the Barbour County Agri-Business Association. He was a cattle and peanut farmer for more than 30 years. Mr. Beaty was an active member of the Clayton Baptist Church until his death. He served the church as Deacon, Church Trustee and was church treasurer for 25 years.
His brother, Robert Foy Beaty Jr., preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Martha Daniel Beaty of Clayton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas D. and Michelle Beaty Jr. of Clayton and Dan and Kim Beaty of Eufaula; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen Beaty and Les Prouty of St. Louis, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.
Ask to serve as pallbearers were Ben and Tom Beaty III, Andrew, Adam and Daniel Prouty, Matt and Bryan Steel and Brad Reynolds.
