Ruth Ellen Cox, a resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Westgate Church of Christ with the ministers Bill Watkins and John David Parker officiating. Interment will follow services at Christian Home Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd of Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Westgate Church of Christ. At other times the family will be at 903 Rosebud Drive. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimers Research Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, AL 36305.
Ruth Ellen was born on Dec. 2, 1932, in Wicksburg to Walter Martin and Virgie Searcy Daughtry. She was the only girl after four boys. She attended Wicksburg High School graduating in 1951 as salutatorian. After graduation, she began her career at First National Bank of Dothan, serving as personnel director and purchasing agent. She was promoted to assistant vice president of SouthTrust Bank in the Money Management department and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1995 after 45 years of service. Mrs. Cox served as past president of Pilot Club International and also served in NABW. She was a member of Westgate Church of Christ and worked at Westgate Christian School after her retirement. Ruth Ellen always had a good time wherever she went, always keeping her family and friends and family in the highest of importance.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Fred W. Cox, a baby daughter, Brenda Cox, her parents, and two brothers, Quinton Daughtry and Herman Daughtry.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Cox Russell, Dothan; granddaughters Kaitlin Elizabeth Russell, Dothan, Kylie Elizabeth Russell, Dothan; mother-in-law, Laura Melton; brothers, Rudolph (Betty) Daughtry, Earl Daughtry; sisters-in-law, Ruth Daughtry, Johnnie Daughtry; several nieces, nephews, close cousins, and very special friends, Edna Rudd and Jan Hamilton, and a very special cousin, Gwen Searcy Hamilton.
Serving as active pallbearers are Ronald Devane, Hank Gerards, Jack Hamilton, Ken Hamilton and Pierce Flatt.
