Mr. Porter Hill, a residence of Dothan passed away Aug. 14, 2007, at Flowers Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services for Mr. Hill will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Allen Temple Church of God in Christ with Elder J.C. Rodgers and Elder Willie Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Gates of Heaven cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hammond Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Mr. Hill retired from the City of Newark, N.J., as a Foreman. He moved to Dothan, gave his life to the Lord and was a devoted member of Allen Temple Church of God in Christ.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mrs. Jo-Ella Smelley Hill; two daughters, Beverly Baxter of Louisburg, N.C., Kendra Smelley of Dothan; two grandchildren, Antionette and Randy Baxter of Louisburg, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Smith of Dothan, Mrs. Ethel (Robert) Corbitt of Abbeville; two brothers, Mr. George (Joann) Hill of Newark, N.J., Mr. Richard (Virginia) Hill of Dothan; seven sisters-in-law, Mae Bell Hill of Abbeville, Maria (Earl) Valentine, Gloria Smelley, Mary, Debra (Wayne) Griggs, Joann Jenkins, all of New Jersey; three brothers, Charles (Mary) Smelley of Dothan; Steven Smelley, Mark (Cheryl) Smelley, both of Mebane, N.C.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
