Hubert Allen Walker, a resident of Anderson Church Road, Clio (Blue Springs), died early Saturday night, Aug. 11, 2007, in a Dothan hospital. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, in the Springhill Baptist Church, near Blue Springs, with the Revs. Bill Hassell and W.M. Todd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. today at Holman-Abbeville Mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Springhill Baptist Church, c/o Mavis Carroll, 278 Mavis Carroll Road, Clopton, AL 36317.
Mr. Walker was a lifelong resident of Barbour County, near Blue Springs, son of the late Lawrence Franklin Walker and Laura Frances Baker Walker. He was a 1939 graduate of Blue Springs High School. Mr. Walker served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church and the Greater Clio Ruritan Club and was a former member of the Blue Springs Masonic Lodge. Mr. Walker was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville where he was employed as a supervisor and in quality control after 29 years employment. In earlier years, he was engaged in farming. A Baptist minister, Mr. Walker served the Lawrenceville Baptist Church, near Abbeville, and also the Anderson Baptist Church, near Blue Springs, as its pastor. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda Parmer and Blondell Dumas and two brothers, the Rev. Johnny C. Walker and Leon E. Walker.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Elizabeth Sheppard Walker, Blue Springs; three sons, Robert A. Walker and wife, Burlinda Walker, Warner Robins, Ga.; Larry L. Walker, Chesapeake, Va.; Hubert D. Walker and wife, Jama Walker, Dothan; three sisters, Frances Caudle and husband, Ray Caudle, Birmingham, Jewell Faulk, Clio, Theresa Gilley, Cantonment, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Walker; a brother-in-law, Lewey Frank Parmer; six grandchildren, Melissa Robinson and husband, Jeff Robinson, Kimberly Rosenbaum and husband, Ben Rosenbaum, Jeffrey A. Walker and wife, Lisa Walker, Tiffany Alley and husband, Robert Alley, Jessica Steltenpohl and husband, Josh Steltenpohl and Brooke Walker; five great-grandchildren, Emily and Haley Rosenbaum, Robert and Branden Walker and Kylie Snay.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Josh Steltenpohl, Jeff Walker, Robert Alley, Billy Paramore, Glen Beaty and Donnie DeShazo.
