Mr. John Daniel McLaughlin of Blue Springs died Saturday morning, Aug. 11, 2007, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 67.
Funeral services will be Wednesday in the Chapel of Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Max Todd officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark will be handling local arrangements. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, they will receive friends at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, 1500 Frederick Road in Opelika, from 6 to 8 p.m. (334-749-8700)
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 1012, Wetumpka, AL 26092.
Mr. McLaughlin was born March 11, 1940, in Blue Springs to the late Myrtis Wilkinson McLaughlin and Dr. James Clarence McLaughlin. He moved to Auburn when he was in the 7th grade and graduated from Auburn High School in 1958. He attended Auburn University and was an avid Auburn football fan. Mr. McLaughlin worked with the U.S. Postal Service in Auburn for 32 years, retiring as postmaster. He enjoyed working in the yard and house, cooking and watching NASCAR events. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McLaughlin was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Linda Denney McLaughlin.
Survivors include his wife, Romona McLaughlin of Blue Springs; his daughter, Danilyn McLaughlin of Santa Barbara, Calif.; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Leann McLaughlin of Auburn; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Dan and Leslie Fuqua of Oshkosh, Wis., and one grandchild, Jared Fuqua.
