Ernestine Gibson of 547 Midland-Michigan Ave. in Midland City passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Flowers Hospital. She was 62.
Home-going services will be Saturday at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Headland at 1 p.m. with the Rev. C. S. Pope officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Headland. Flowers are being accepted and can be delivered to Sunset Memorial Park at 1808 Barrington Rd.
Mrs. Gibson was born on Feb. 18, 1945, in Henry County to the late Johnnie and Celester Galloway Thomas. She received her early years of education from the Headland school system, graduating from Northside High School in Headland. Mrs. Gibson was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Wiley Gibson on Aug. 5, 1965, and to this union three children were born. She was employed by George C. Wallace State Community College in Dothan as a custodial supervisor until her retirement in August of 2006. Although she worked for 38 years at Wallace College, her most important job always was the time she spent working on the battlefield for the Lord. She loved to talk about the Lord and the people around her including the staff and students at Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie Thomas, and her baby daughter, Shauntina Gibson.
Mrs. Gibson leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted husband Wiley Gibson of Midland City; devoted daughters, Debra McClain and Shaunda Gibson of Midland City; three grandsons, Robert of Mobile, Jeremy of Midland City, Joshua of Midland City; her mother, Celester Thomas of Kinsey; brothers and sisters, Rushie Bell Patterson of Dothan, Virginia Brinley of Kinsey, Johnnie Lee (Arlene) Thomas of Headland, Bobby Thomas of Dothan, Sammy Thomas of Dothan, David Lee (Betty) Thomas of Dothan, Ray (Faye) Thomas of Dothan, Bertha Thomas of Kinsey, Willie Ruth Thomas of Kinsey; sisters-in-law, Willene Thomas of Midland City, Lena (Walter) Ludgood of Midland City, Robbie (Rev. Leon) May of Birmingham; brother-in-law, Willie James Gibson of Dothan; an aunt, Mable Galloway of Eufaula; two God-sons, Michael Johnson and James Peters; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends and the Shiloh �?" Daleville Church Family.
