Mrs. Wessie Pauline Croom Best of Gordon passed away Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. She was 91.
Graveside services will be Wednesday in Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home (Ashford) at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James Miller officiating. The family will be receiving friends today from 2 to 3 p.m.
Mrs. Best was born Sept. 1, 1915, in Donaldsonville, Ga. She was the daughter of Samuel O. Croom and Posey Burkett Croom. Mrs. Best was a homemaker. She has lived in this area for 28 years, after living in Louisville, Ky., for a while. She was a previous member of Gordon Baptist Church and also Beulah Baptist Church in Dothan.
Mrs. Best was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hubert Eudell Best; and a sister, Laurena Ward.
Survivors include two daughters, Rena Dell Knight and husband Howard of Gordon and Rita Best of Gordon; one son, Jasper Best and wife Judy Best of Ashford; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Don Best, Jeff Best Cameron Best, Rickey Best, Billy Best and Sammy Lewis.
Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home in Ashford, (334) 899-1117, is in charge of arrangements.
