Mr. Herbert Fred Carr of Hartford, formerly of Ozark, died early Sunday morning, July 22, 2007, at his home following a brief illness. He was 89.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home of Ozark with the Rev. Tommy Carr officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Westview Memorial Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 484, Ozark, AL 36361.
Mr. Carr was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Geneva County to the late Nellie Mae Whitehead Carr and Henry Fred Carr. He attended Geneva County Schools and Troy University. In 1942, Mr. Carr joined the Air Force and served until November of 1946 during World War II. He worked as an aircraft mechanic at Fort Rucker with Civil Service until his retirement. Mr. Carr served as director of the Aviation School in Ozark, now Enterprise-Ozark Community College. His hobbies were mathematics, biology, and chemistry. He had a brilliant mind �?" a real renaissance man.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his son, Michael Carr, his twin sister, Helen Carr Sellers, and three brothers, Henry Jayett Carr, Hubert Carr, and Herman Carr.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lorene McLendon Carr of Hartford, one sister, Sara Maxwell of Nashville, Tenn., three sisters-in-law, Hilda N. Carr, Margaret Ruth Carr, and Doris Carr. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
