Mrs. Sylvia Grace Ray Strickland, a resident of Headland (formerly of Dothan), passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center following an extended illness. She was 69.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday July 10, 2007 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. James Smith and Sister Pippins officiating. Burial will follow at Frith Hill Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.
The family would like to invite you to come and share your memories at the visitation to be held at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, prior to the services. Flowers will be accepted. Everyone is welcome to remain after the services to share in a time of fellowship.
Mrs. Strickland was born on July 12, 1937, in Cottonwood, the daughter of the late General Dewey Ray and Corrina Webb Ray. Mrs. Strickland worked as a waitress for most of her lifetime, working at Rays Restaurant for around 10 years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Anthony Dickerson.
Survivors include: Husband of 48 years, Shelby Strickland, Headland; six children, Brenda Strickland Metcalfe, Orlando, Fla., Rhonda Strickland Mitchell, Midland City, Deborah Strickland Simmons, Geneva, Bobby Strickland, Headland, Mary Dickerson McGowen, Malvern, Donald Dickerson, Cottonwood; two sisters, Jewel Williams, Rockledge, Fla., Estelle Hard, Dothan; two brothers, Dewey Junior Ray, Midland City, Robert Earl Ray, Dothan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Thomas Mitchell, Matt McGowan, Trip Smith, Chris Smith, Trey Simmons and Curtis Simmons.
