Mr. William Henry Chapman, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday July 7, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 98.
Funeral services for Mr. Chapman will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Southern Heritage with the Rev. Bobby Marks officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, Ala. 36301; Covenant United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3610 W. Main Street, Dothan, Ala. 36305; or Cornerstone Bible Church Building Fund, 2685 John D. Odom Road, Dothan, Ala. 36303.
Mr. Chapman was born in Dale County, Ala., and lived with his wife and family on their farm on Denton Road in Dothan for 58 years until 1995. He was involved in farming and construction until his retirement. Mr. Chapman had a love and devotion for his wife and girls and established in them a way of life based on true Christian values.
Mr. Chapman is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers and a grandson, Daryl Stringfellow.
Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Mary Robbie Reeves Chapman, Dothan, two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy Jeanne and W.C. Stringfellow, Dothan, Peggy Anne and James H. Roney, Dothan; grandchildren, Sharon (Frank) Simmons, Ariton, Patricia (Joseph) Godwin, Dothan, Gary (Christine) Roney, Dothan; two step-grandchildren, Michael (Deborah) Roney, Dothan, Cheryl (Larry) Susemichel, Louisville, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Michelle (Terry) Patman, Ariton, Ala., Amanda (Lee) McCurley, Enterprise, Allison Stringfellow, Dothan, Kealani Roney, Dothan, Dajun Godwin and Rowan Godwin, Dothan; great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Breckenridge, Anna Carr, Dothan, Dalton Patman, Ariton; five step-great-grandchildren, Christopher Roney, Columbus, Ga., Stephanie Susemichel and Emily Susemichel, Louisville, Ky., Jennifer Jacobson, Watertown, N.Y., and Melanie Calhoun, Dothan.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Roney, Joe Godwin, Dajun Godwin, Terry Patman, Frank Simmons and Lee McCurley. Honorary pallbearers will be W.C. Stringfellow, Rowan Godwin and Hunter Breckenridge.
The family wishes to express their great love and appreciation to the staff and nurses of Covenant Hospice and all the wonderful caregivers for their care and compassion during these last three months.
