Thousands of Americans celebrated "Older Amricans Day" yesterday at Eastgate Park. The yearly event is sponsored by the Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging.
Older American`s Day celebrates the lives of senior citizens and their impact on the community.
This was the twenty-first celebration and community organizers were encouraged by the strong turnout from seniors from the Wiregrass.
This is the 21st year of the event, and many seniors look forward to the annual celebration. The event is organized for seniors at least 60 years old. People from over seven counties came to visit vendors giving out free information and souvenirs.
Entertainers on stage played and sang music while people enjoyed the lively sights and sounds of the event.
This event is done in collaboration with the month of May which is Older Americans Month. This year SARCOA expected over 3-thousand participants to celebrate the day, and it hopes the celebration will grow each each and have an impact on the lives of seniors.
There is a new theme to the event every year, and it has been so successful that organizers have already started planning for next year.
