The city of Dothan will observe Small Business Week to recognize the many small retail and specialty shops, restaurants, and service industries in the area for what they contribute to the economy.
Mayor Chester Sowell made it official with a proclamation at yesterday`s morning`s meeting of the Dothan City Commission. Next Monday through Friday, May 9-13, is set aside as Small Business Week. The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce is on board since their membership is largely small business. Steve Turkowski of the chamber says, "the week`s schedule will include excellent opportunities for those seeking startup money for small business. Representatives of the Small Business Administration will be taking loan applications each day Monday through Friday, and from 3-7 p. m. at Troy University Dothan. They hope to make 400 loans here next week."
In making the proclamation for Small Business Week, Mayor Sowell stated that small business creates two-thirds of all new jobs, and that small businesses create new ways to produce and market products.
The Small Business Committee plans to kick off the week with a press conference Monday at 2 p. m.
