BUSH TO BE IN MONTGOMERY:
President Bush is set to make an appearance in Montgomery next week.
The Birmingham News reports that the President will attend a town-hall style meeting in the Capitol city to discuss his plans for reforming Social Security.
The President is to appear Thursday, March 10th at Auburn University at
Montgomery.
BAXLEY POLl:
Alabama Lt. Governor Lucy Baxley is pleased with the recent poll results giving her higher public approval than incumbent Governor Bob Riley and former Governor Don Siegelman.
Alabama Public Radio quotes Baxley as saying the most telling thing about the poll`s results is that, quote,"I`ve never held that job." while the other two have. Baxley wouldn`t say if the poll tempts her to run for governor.
Alabama`s only female governor was Lurleen Wallace, who served a partial term in the late 1960s before dying of cancer.
Baxley is from Houston County.
SCRUSHY UPDATE:
In Birmingham, the Richard Scrushy fraud continues...prosecution witness and former Healthsouth Chief Financial Officer Michael Martin, testified yesterday that founder Richard Scrushy was well aware of the massive accounting fraud taking place under his watch.
Martin claims Scrushy instructed his team of executives to proceed with inflating the company`s earnings.
Scrushy pleaded "not guilty" in the case and directs all fault to former C.F.O.`s and other employees known in the company as "the family."
