SOLDIERS GRANT: Governor Bob Riley announced Friday that some members of Alabama National Guard and Reserves who lost jobs due to deployment will be getting some financial assistance. Alabama will receive more than $743,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor`s National Emergency Fund to provide living expenses for deployed troops who returned home and found they no longer had jobs. At least 25 Alabama military personnel or spouses have been identified as qualifing for this assistance. A special 10 member committee established by Riley to seek federal workforce funding for Alabama, played a major role in helping the state obtain the funds. TRAFFIC CAMERAS: Representative Alvin Holmes in vowing to fight two bills in the legislature authorizing the use of video cameras to capture the license plate numbers of people who run red lights. The "Montgomery Advertiser" reports Holmes as saying it`s another way of implementing, quote, "racial profiling" in the state. He says he will resort to a filabuster if it comes down to it. The proposed bills would let towns and cities send citations to motorists in the mail. HUNTSVILLE WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER: A Huntsville woman is charged with murder, after confessing to starving her three children to death. They were discovered in horrific conditions...the children, ages 8, 9, and 11, were discovered by relatives in an apartment, Friday. Nath-shay Yvonne Ward has been charged with capital murder. Investigators say the children appeared to be severely malnourished and had been dead for days before the bodies were discovered. Police say utilities to the apartment were off, and the children had not been to school since Christmas break.
