The Dothan Police Department cracked the books recently, with a refresher course on high speed chases.
If you remember, last summer a Dothan officer was involved with a high speed chase that resulted in two men dying in that incident.
The department wants to try to keep this from happening again, so the department met with City Manager Mike West last week about it`s high speed pursuit policies. The two-hour session covered everything from when it`s reasonable to begin pursuing an individual at a higher-rate of speed, keeping in mind the safety of other drivers and when to back-off.
Right now, the city is dealing with two lawsuits dealing with high speed chases.
A captain with the department told News 18 that everyone is comfortable with the department`s policies, and it`s the same training the department has always done.
