HEALTH MATTERS FEBRUARY IS HEART MONTH

Updated: January 7, 2009
Yesterday marked the beginning of National Heart Month, and yesterday Neal Posey talked to a registered nurse who specializes in Cardiac Rehabilation, and about what foods to eat to help keep the ole ticker healthy. When travelling past your favorite eating spots, there is one thing you may want to keep in mind...according to Registered Nurse Dinese Golden with Cardia Rehab at SEAMC. That is, how will this food effect the health of my heart? In talking about guidelines for heart health, just how do some of our favorite foods stack up in the "fat" category? For example, the fat found in your average "Big Mac" is twice that to what is found in a potatoe, which has none; however, when you make it french fries, that adds fat. And, the difference in how much fat is in regular ice cream compared to yogurt, it`s twice the amount. Ms. Golden says also, to drink plenty of water every day, and she warns against low carb diets, saying the long term effects aren`t good for the heart.
