Updated: January 7, 2009
An important announcement from Fort Rucker will not only mean better living conditions for soldiers, but also jobs for the Wiregrass. Yesterday officials released details about a 50 year plan to privatize and renew more than 1400 houses at Fort Rucker. It`s called the Community Development and Management Plan, and it`s being implemented at some 35 installations around the country. The plan will restore Army housing units, creat new community centers and other amenities to meet family housing needs on post. The government is investing at least $24 million in the project, and estimates that up to 70 percent of the actual construction will be done by people right here in the Wiregrass.
