Updated: January 7, 2009
The Dothan Fire Department has been awarded a grant to purchase emergency equipment. The Dothan City Commission voted yesterday morning, to accept a mutual assistance grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The Dothan Fire Department will use the money, $80,000 in all, to purchase equipment for hazmat and heavy rescue operations. Scheduled to arrive in a few weeks are two tractor trailer rigs, one for rescue purposes, and one for hazmat. Dothan Fire Chief Sam Crawford says the added capability is much needed. He says the grant money will enable Dothan to maintain adequate regional response, and the improvement in capability is much needed for emergency operations.
