VOTING MACHINES: Alabama Legislators are going to have to make some changes this year in the way voting machines work in state elections. Secretary of State Nancy Worley says our nation`s capital wants every polling place to have a touch-screen machine for handicapped voters. She says all voting machines also must generate a paper trail to allow accurate recounts, if needed. Worley warns that machines in Montgomery, Mobile and Dekalb counties don`t currently allow recounts on individual machines. RILEY DELIVERING MESSAGE TO TOP DEFENSE OFFIALS IN WASHINGTON: Governor Bob Riley is in Washington this week for President Bush`s Inauguration, and he`s concerned about the upcoming round of federal military base closures, which could hurt some Alabama bases. The Defense Department is expected to submit a list of recommended base closings in May. Riley says he will do whatever it takes to keep Alabama bases open, adding that they are "vital to the nation`s defense and to the economic vitality of Alabama."
