"THE MISSING" - PART 1

Updated: January 7, 2009
Nearly every day in America someone`s child disappears, often leaving few clues behind. Today we take a look back at a puzzling case from the town of Opp. Investigators there have spent seven years looking for a young ladY who vanished one Friday night and has not been seen since. 17-year old Kimberly Ramer was your typical small town All-American girl...she was a popular student at Opp High School, active in sports and in her community. On August 15, 1997, that happy world was shattered as the Ramer family began to live out every parent`s worst nightmare. Ms. Ramer said, "it was a Thursday...that Thursday before Friday...she went missing that night. I had gone over and we had lunch together." Little did Sue Ramer know that would be the last time she would see her daughter. The next night after finishing a softball game, Kimberly was going home to change clothes and meet up with friends, but then she vanished, leaving not one clue behind. It has now been seven years...this has haunted investigators and the community. The most puzzling aspect of this case would be that she just totally disappeared...without a trace...it`s just like this young lady disappeared off the face of the earth. Her parents said they weren`t afraid of her ever disappearing...that was the furthest thing from their mind...a small town where everyone knows everyone. Kimberly`s case put the town of Opp on the national map. For weeks and even months after her disappearance investigators from across the state descended here and the national media even took an interest in what happended, but to no avail. After seven years, the case is by no means closed, but it has become almost impossible to be optimistic. Ms. Ramer said she believed someone came to the house. She said she still held out hope that Kimberly was alive, but it`s been a long time. Sue does hope that some day, somewhere, the mystery of what happened will be solved. She said her faith in God has sustained her all these years, but not a day goes by that she doesn`t think about it. Investigators suspect that foul play was involved, but that`s hard to prove without one shred of physical evidence. The investigation does continue, and if you have any information about what happened, or know where Kimberyly might be, call the Opp Police Department, or the FBI.
