Our On Your Side report this week concerns veterans who have served our country in war. Some came to us complaining that after they serve their country, the U. S. doesn`t always return the favor.
WDHN took a closer look at the allegations, and one of our reporters talked to one local Gulf War Veteran who says he is fed up with the run-around.
Gulf War Veteran Todd Whitehead says he`s fed up with the VA`s paperwork, unreturned phone calls, and months of waiting. He is a diabetic and claims he can`t work...he thought that the VA would compensate him, but he has had no luck. He said he had no idea why it had taken the VA office in Montgomery so long to respond.
We checked with the Montgomery VA office, and they issued the following statement."There is a thorough process that the VA goes through to determine proper compensation for injury or illness relating to military services...we feel there is a sound system in place."
Whitehead disagrees, and even says he questions his daughter going to the military.
