After only week on the job, Dothan City Manager Michael West is weighing in on the controversial investigation of Police Chief John White.
He says he`s ready to launch his "own" investigation to settle the matter and move forward.
West appeared before Personnel Board members Monday, requesting copies of transcripts from interviews already conducted by the board.
He plans on looking over those documents as well as any other information they give...he`ll also interview people himself, including several employees on the force to see if inappropriate activities has taken place.
West said, (quote), "there are three main reasons to investigate...number one it`s impacting employee moral, number two, it has an impact in public and police department imagages...and third, it`ll interfere with the recruitment of a new Police Chief. My perspective is to make sure there is an appropriate run, and nothing is inappropriate." (end quote)
West says he`s currently in the process of finding a replacement for Chief John White, and he doesn`t want the investigation to be an issue for the new police chief to have to contend with. He says, "if there is a problem, let`s fix it, if not...move on".
