FORMER CAPTAIN JIM SMITH WANTS OLD JOB BACK

Updated: January 7, 2009
After months of controversy surrounding his departure, Cottonwood Police Chief Jim Smith is now wanting to return to the force here in Dothan. On the advice of his lawyer, Smith declined an on camera interview with WDHN, but he did say he now feels more confident about working with the Dothan Department. You`ll remember, he resigned last December amidst allegations that his resignation was forced. In a letter to the City Personnel Board, he says (quote), "as you are aware, I was forced to resign under duress.... (He also said:) employees are allowed, according to the City of Dothan Personnel Rules, Section 2-50, to be reinstated to their position within one year, if there is a vacancy. Since no one has been appointed to my vacated position, I respectfully request that I be reinstated." (end quote) So far, there has been no official reply from the city...we`ll keep on top of this story and bring you more as it becomes available.
