breaking news
Yesterday morning, the city`s focus was on a disease that kills tens of thouands of women each year. Officials from Dothan and Houston County came together with others to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Breast cancer survivors painted a pink line at the event. One of the speakers, Elaine Smith, says treatment has come a long way since she was first disgnosed. She says they have much better treatment now. Miss Alabama, Shannon Camper, also spoke to the crowd. Camper`s platform is Breast Cancer Awareness. Shannon stresses that it is now important for younger people to get regular exams, as this disease is not limited. If there is a history of the disease to other family members, it is extremely important to take exams annually.
According to a recent study, there are some frightening statistics...one out of eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life.
