HIGHER GARBAGE FEES COMING FIRST OF THE YEAR

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The Houston County Commission discussed increased sanitation costs at yesterday`s meeting. You can expect to pay higher garbage fees starting January 1st. The county hasn`t rasied prices in 14 years....right now fees are nine dollars and 60 cents for pickup, but that rate is likely to go up to 12 dollars. Engineer Mark Pool says as of now the county is losing a lot of money, and even after hiking prices, they expect to be running in the red. Pool said, "we project to lose 313-thousand in sanitation, take that out in five years, and we`re gonna lose over a million in the next five years...we need to make a little adjustment so we don`t lose so much money." Commissioners will be discussing the proposed hike at greater length at next Monday`s meeting.
