Just as it got underway, the Corruption Trial of former Governor Don Seigelman, took a surprising turn yesterday.
After the Judge threw out the conspiracy charge considered vital to the case, prosecutors "dropped" the medicaid fraud charges against Siegelman and his former Chief of Staff, Paul Hamrick.
Judge U. W. Clemon ruled there was not enough evidence to support the conspiracy charge against the two. Both were accused of conspiring with a Tuscaloosa physician to rig a bid on a lucrative Medicaid contract.
With the conspiracy charge out, the prosecutor said there`s no point in going forward.
