If you think rattlesnakes aren`t crawling around in your neck of the woods, beware. A six-and-a-half foot rattlesnake was killed Tuesday in Columbia. 27-year-old Joey Daughtry of Columbia went squirrel hunting in the woods behind his home Tuesday, and returned home without a squirrel, however he wasn`t empty. He said he was looking up in a tree trying to shoot a squirrel when he heard the rattler who was about ready to strike. The snake had 15 rattlers, however, he believes it was longer because it appears as though some were missing. Daughtry said he had killed six or seven rattlesnakes at his home over the years...it`s not uncommon here in the Wiregrass, and he wants everyone to be alert so they won`t be put in a deadly situation. Daughtry says if a poisionous snake does strike you, wrap the area above the wound with a shirt or band to cut off the circulation, then go immediately to the emergency room.
